2010 Paris Book Festival Winners

PARIS (May 4, 2010) The 2010 Paris Book Festival has named Mary Osbourne’s “Nonna’s Book of Mysteries” as the winner of its annual competition honoring the best of international publishing.

The young adult book, set in Florence, Italy during the Renaissance, is the story of Emilia Serafini, who wants to learn to paint. The obstacles are many, but Emilia has her grandmother’s book, “A Manual to the Science of Alchemy,” which serves as inspiration and guide.

As she struggles against the strictures women faced in the 15th century, Emilia learns about choices and their consequences in a magical setting that vividly conjures the art world of the era.

Chicago-based Osbourne will receive a cash grant of $1500 as her grand prize for the work.
